WHAT IT IS

Yoga Nidra is sometimes translated to “yogic sleep”. It speaks to a meditative state of consciousness centered around relaxation that elicits a heightened self- and universal-awareness. It is a technique that differs from other forms of meditation, in its centuries-old yogic roots and approach.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Yoga Nidra should be experienced to truly be understood. As a student, you will typically be guided by your teacher lie down comfortably. Through verbal cues, they will guide you further through the Yoga Nidra practice, utilizing specialized verbal cues – and thus your sense of hearing – to shift your state of consciousness, while your other senses can release and let go. The goal of this practice is “samadhi”, which is the Sanskrit term for a state embodying both deep relaxation and meditation.

BENEFITS

This is an especially potent yoga that may help ease physical and emotional tensions or anxiety, and bring about peace. It may calm symptoms stemming from the autonomic nervous system, psychological challenges, or endocrine imbalances. It can boost creativity and may help improve sleep. Both grounding and uplifting, Yoga Nidra will relax and revive, calm and restore. It has been used to great effect for individuals coping with PTSD, including active military and veterans, as well as any other yogi or yogini.

QUOTE

“Yoga is not an ancient myth buried in oblivion. It is the most valuable inheritance of the present. It is the essential need of today and the culture of tomorrow.” -- Satyananda Saraswati
